STEP 1

IDENTIFY YOUR TALENTS

Take some time to think about the skills, knowledge, and interests you have that could be of value to others. Here is how to find out what you're good at:

WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT.

The first step in monetizing your talents is to find out what you're actually good at. What your talents are.

Start by asking yourself the following questions:

  • What do my friends always ask you about?
  • What have people complimented me on?
  • What could I write a book about now?
  • What gives me energy? Let's say I've had a long day, I'm tired. If I'd need to work on something, what would it be?
  • What do I know more about than the average person around me?

Also consider whether you’re a topic expert. A topic expert is someone who knows a lot about a specific field that they've studied, educated themselves, or worked in (e.g. Health, Human Resources, Psychology, AI, Finance etc.).

Do you know about a specific field more than the average person?

Perfect!

That's a great talent to monetize.

If you're still struggling with what that one talent could be, follow these steps:

TAKE A PERSONALITY TEST

such as the 16 Personalities Myers-Briggs Test , the Big Five Personality Test or the Enneagram to help you understand your strengths and natural tendencies.

MORNING PAGES

For at least a week, get up every morning and write 3 pages in a journal. A physical one if possible! Pen and paper will get you way further than being stuck in your notes app or on your laptop.

Extra tip: make it an enjoyable routine - grab some tea, a snack, go on airplane mode and just write

LET'S TAKE ACTION

Now it's time to get to action already, here are some prompts to get you started.

MORNING PAGES PROMPTS

Here's what to write about:

  • Make a list of all the tasks and activities that you enjoy doing and find easy.
  • Reflect on your education and career experiences, what subjects and projects were you really good in?
  • Consider what you’re passionate about, what you love talking about, and what you can't get enough of

Ask yourself:

  1. What have I accomplished in my life that I am proud of?
  2. What do I enjoy doing that I am good at?
  3. What do people come to me for help with?
  4. If I'd buy a non-fiction book to dive deeper into a topic I love, what would it be about?
  5. What activities give me energy?
  6. What niche knowledge do I have?*
  7. If I had to write a book now, what would it be about?
  8. What have people complimented you on?

* for topic experts:

If you have been working in a field professionally for a time (whether that's through corporate, freelance, or academic experience), you probably have become a topic expert.

Knowledge of a topic, industry, or niche alone will help you monetize quickly (see next step).

FAMILY + FRIENDS QUESTIONS

  1. If you would need help with something what would you come to me for?
  2. Are there any skills or talents I have that you would pay me for for teaching you?
  3. What do you think I'm really good at?
  4. Have you ever seen me do something extremely well that you think could be turned into a way to earn money?

So let's go!

Call up at least one person NOW or send them a voice message.

Don't overthink it, just send it!
